I’m drawn to those non-places that exist on the edges of towns and urban environments.
As a child in the 1970’s and 1980’s, I was brought up on a grey rendered council estate on The Isle of Man where plumes of smoke would rise from chimneys. My background and upbringing is integral to my practice where feelings of melancholy and euphoria intersect.
The work aims to discover those small moments of paradise in everyday life, I employ digital flashes of light with hazy smudges that glow underneath the relentless slate grey skies that so often feature over many months of life in the UK.
